Create an Audience and Segment

Building an audience and segmenting strategically makes each interaction relevant and meaningful, boosting engagement and outcomes.

Why create an audience?

Building an audience lets you connect directly with the users you want to reach. By defining your audience, you’re setting the foundation for effective communication, ensuring your messages are delivered to the people who matter most.

The power of segmentation

Segmentation divides your audience into targeted subgroups by demographics, behaviours, or preferences. Advantus’s segmentation empowers you to deliver personalised messages that engage and drive actions.

Pre-requisite

To create or add an audience, you must ensure-

  • Each data entry in the file has a Unicode.
  • The file size should be 20MB or below.
  • At least one column in your file must contain either an “email,” a “mobile_number,” or both.
  • Each cell can contain one email ID or mobile number.
  • Each mobile number should be in the E.164 format (e.g., 14155552671).

How do you create or add an audience?

Step 1

Navigate to the Audience widget and click on the "Import users" button.

Step 2

Now, click on the "Upload file" button and upload your audience file.

Column nameDescription
EmailThe email id of the recipient.
External user idA unique identifier assigned to each external user, typically used for reference or integration with external systems.
VariablesA column to store dynamic, customisable data about the user, such as age, country, or other attributes.

Note: All file formats CSV, TSV, XLSX, XLSM, XLSB, XLTX, XLTM, XLS, and XLT are supported in Advnatus.

Step 3:

When uploading the file, the Segment editor displays the total user count. In the same pop-up, you can name the segment and save it by clicking the "Create segment" button.
